Based on the REF5050 IC, the REF50X low cost voltage reference is designed to provide an accurate and repeatable precision 2.5V DC for general use around lab and workshop.
Accuracy over a wide temperature range (10C-30C, 50-86F) is achieved using an on-die temperature sensor, microcontroller and high-resolution PWM DAC to actively compensate the reference.
Sensitive electronics are coated in silicone to reduce changes due to humidity also physical stress on the reference IC is reduced by a set of cut-outs on the PCB.
A low-current green LED shows when power is ON. The LED will also flash to indicate the reference is either outside it’s calibrated temperature limits:
Slow flash: below lowest calibrated point.
Fast flash: above highest calibrated point.
Momentary blink: correctly formatted data packet received (used during factory calibration).
Calibration coefficients are stored in non-volatile memory on the microcontroller. These can be updated during recalibration by us, or by using a TTL level RS232 port on a PC and the REF50X application (user will need at least a 6.5 digit DMM and a method of (gently) setting the temperature of the whole reference.
Each REF50X is aged for 100+ hours before final adjustment.

All voltage references are adjusted/calibrated in-house and given a final calibration prior to being dispatched. Final calibration is checked against our Keysight 34465A (calibrated by a UKAS approved laboratory). We issue a Certificate of Calibration with each reference.
