CTL503 Curve Tracer
A cost-effective transistor (BJT, FET, MOSFET) computer-controlled curve tracer.
- Collector sweep0 to ±100 V
- Peak collector current3 A
- Step generator1–24 steps
- Pulse testing80 / 300 µs
Overview
The CTL503 curve tracer is designed for characterisation of transistors and other semiconductor devices at collector/emitter voltages up to 100 V and currents up to 3 A. Four relay-selected collector resistors support testing across a broad range of device types and power levels, making it particularly well suited to audio amplifier development, transistor matching, and advanced educational applications.
In audio amplifier design, the CTL503 enables engineers to generate detailed characteristic curves, match complementary or parallel transistors for low-distortion push-pull stages, and verify thermal stability under realistic operating conditions. Configurable peak voltage and current limits safeguard devices under test, while pulse testing minimises self-heating and ensures repeatable results.
The instrument connects via USB to a PC and is controlled by our free EPIC software, which provides intuitive configuration, automatic data logging, and high-quality image+CSV capture of curves. These capabilities support thorough documentation of matched transistor sets, design validation, and classroom demonstrations of semiconductor behaviour, HFE variation, and other key parameters.
By combining high-voltage/current capability with flexible protection features and professional-grade software, the CTL503 serves as an effective tool for both professional audio, electronics development and advanced teaching facilities.
Component characterization, device matching, quality control, failure analysis, education and training, transistor selection for audio applications, power electronics testing, and semiconductor research.
